Greetings in Christ, all!

Please note that I am writing this bulletin article way ahead of time due to publishing restraints and, as a result, I won’t be able to comment on any current events.

We are in the Second Week of Advent: the time of the Church year when we work at preparing ourselves for the Second Coming of Christ.

This season is, of course, tied to Jesus’ first coming to us some 2,000 years ago. We recognize that our Advent Season culminates in our Christmas Season, when we rejoice at God taking flesh and walking among us, redeeming us and opening heaven. One great way we can make sure we prepare is by doing small, private acts of sacrifice for others…even strangers. Each time we step out of our own world of needs and enter the needs of others, we grow as Christians. Dr. Peter Kreeft has pointed out on a few occasions that sacrifice is one of the most powerful weapons in our Spiritual arsenal simply because evil is powerless over sacrifice. I like that thought a lot.

So, may God bless our Advent Season and all the acts of love and sacrifice we do in honor of it.

I thank God for the joy of being your priest.
