Hello, my beautiful Holy Family!

Lent is moving right along now and I am loving it. Throughout the Lenten Season, I will continue my homily series on The Story of Salvation.

To review:

Week One:
We were created by love, for love and to love. Sin obscures that truth by compelling us to turn our love inward toward the self.

Week Two:
The effects of sin: when we look at the first things that happened when sin entered the world, we see the disastrous consequences.

Week Three:
Here we will look at how one of the consequences of our fall is that we become complainers, instead of people who remember God’s goodness.

So, that’s where we will be this week: week three and I’m very excited about this all.

A couple important notes:

Our new Business Manager has begun his service here at Holy Family. His name is Kevin Neugent and, as a recently retired person, he offered his skills and talents to us for a bit. I’m very excited and happy he is here. I’m going to figure out how to set up a welcome so that you all can meet him. In the meantime, if you see him, be sure to introduce yourself. He’s been a friend of mine for over 20 years and is one of my favorite people.

Whatever you think of the newest virus or whatnot, I do want to be prudent, so we’re going to talk about the Holy Water Font. Personally, I love blessing myself with holy water and remembering my baptism, I really do. I bet you do as well. However, when we have a couple thousand people sticking their hands into a common bowl and then applying that to their face, we are begging for trouble in the flu season. To that end, we will remove the holy water font from the small chapel area for a bit. If you need holy water for your home or personal use (a practice I strongly encourage), then I invite you to use the large metal Holy Water container with the spigot that we have in the small kitchen area next to the chapel.

Finally, my Dad has basically moved in with me at the rectory. He has been staying more and more over the months and now that he is trying to sell his house, we moved a bunch of his stuff in and it’s totally official. I’m excited about this, we are genuinely having a good time and, when I do emergency runs, he comes with me and sits in the truck and prays. Trust me, you want that man praying!

So, that’s the update. I love you guys and thank God that I get to be your priest…thank you for being my family.
