Greetings in Christ, all!

This weekend is the big MSU game against their rival in Ann Arbor. By the time you read this, I pray MSU has secured victory.

This Monday is All Saints’ Day. This is when we celebrate and we honor the canonized saints in our Church.  Normally, this is a Holy Day of Obligation but for some reason, it isn’t this year.  Even with that, I pray that we set aside some sort of special celebration that day and go to Mass if we can.

This Tuesday is All Souls’ Day, the day when we pray for and honor our beloved dead.  I hope that we all take time this day to remember and pray for our beloved dead and, if possible, visit and honor their graves. We have a Mass of Remembrance, Tuesday evening, November 2nd at 6pm. Please read the article in the bulletin for more
information. We hope to see you there!

These two feasts remind us of a lot of things, but to me, chief among them is the knowledge that life is terminal, that all of us will face death. We remember our death and let that be a fuel to focus our life and our decisions on the longest part of our existence: the eternal one that begins at our death.

Let the knowledge of our deaths and the prayers of the saints compel us to give all we have to love, to prayer, to growth and service. Let the knowledge of death help us to cling tighter to our families and not take them for
granted. Let it all be a reminder to us to let go of unhealthy grudges and forgive.

I pray that these two extraordinary days don’t just pass us by, but compel us to be grateful for the example and
prayers of the Saints and strive to be one someday as well.

I bless you all with a heart filled with gratitude that I get to be your priest.
