Greetings in Christ, all!
It’s that time of year again: we are officially beginning our DSA drive.
Every year we come together as a parish family to recognize that we are a part of something bigger than our little parish. We are a part of a family and this family pools its resources so as to better serve God and the people in The Diocese of Lansing.
Last year a little over 25% of our parish participated in the DSA drive and we hit 90% of our goal. I want to take this time to thank those who gave and participated: you carried us!
I hope the rest of us see that, if 25% can get us 90% of our goal, then this goal is something we can achieve if we all jump on board.
I’d like to pitch to you a way that God called me to give. Over a year ago, I felt called to set aside $100 a month for DSA. I went to the website: https://www.dioceseoflansing.org/appeal and set up a $100 a month donation in perpetuity. I made sure to indicate I’m a member of Holy Family so that our parish gets credit toward the goal.
I’m asking every single person reading this to consider a monthly gift to DSA in perpetuity in the name of Holy Family so that we can show our support to the diocese that makes our worship and service possible.
Rather than focus on our individual goal, I’d like us to go for 70% participation. Even if you decide to give $10 a month or $30…whatever you can give to help the diocese would be amazing. If we get to 70% of us giving something, it will take the heat off the few who tend to carry us.
I don’t have room this week to tell you why I think we should all give, so I’m going to do that in my homily. The short version: the DSA is the way we can help the diocese to afford to educate priests, feed and care for the vulnerable and pool our resources for insurance, expertise in different areas and innumerable other things.
As a parish family, our church, school and Diocese are the primary ways I ask us to give. This is how we can stay faithful to the mission Jesus gives us; to love God, grow in knowledge of our faith and care for the poor and vulnerable.
May Jesus bless our efforts!
