The Rite of Acceptance

Assembling publicly for the first time at Mass, the participants make known their initial decision to continue on the journey to deepening their faith and learning more intensely about the Catholic faith; the parish community, in turn, welcomes them in love, support and prayer.

The Rite of Sending

The parish family, with love and support, send forth the Catechumens (those who are to be baptized, confirmed and receive First Eucharist) and the Candidates (those to be received into full communion and celebrate Confirmation and First Eucharist) to meet and be welcomed as those ready to celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation by the bishop.

The Rite of Election

At the beginning of Lent, the Catechumens and Candidates along with others from the diocese, are welcomed into the larger Catholic Church by the bishop at an area host parish.

The Three Scrutinies

These take place at Masses during Lent. The parish community prays over the Elect (formerly known as Catechumens) that all that is good in their lives will be strengthened and all that is harmful or sinful will be removed.
