The sacrament of Confirmation completes the grace Christ gives to us at baptism. The effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. By receiving this sacrament, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us to know Christ and to live the Christian life.
“Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and received the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 8:14-17)
At Holy Family, we have been led by the Holy Spirit to offer a new experience for those who are seeking to be Confirmed. Over the past year, we have been discussing, praying, and reflecting on how to meet the needs of all parishioners who desire or need to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
We realize that the needs of people today are very different from those of the past. We are all so very busy, but even in that busyness, we cannot ignore the pull of our heart to experience God in a real way. An encounter with God is the only way to give our lives meaning, foundation and joy. It is for this reason that we are offering everyone who is interested and eligible (8th grade and up) a new way to prepare to receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Instead of weekly or daily Confirmation preparation sessions, we are asking for a time commitment of three sessions for teens (two sessions for adults).
First up, is a mandatory parent-child meeting for all students preparing for Confirmation AND their parents. The Parent-Child meeting is scheduled Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 6:30p in the church.
Next, we will have two experiences that we are calling Super Saturdays*.
Our first Super Saturday is scheduled on October 1, 2022 from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
Our second Super Saturday is scheduled on February 4, 2023 from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
The combination of these three (two for adults) meetings will encompass all Confirmation preparation requirements.
*Breakfast and lunch will be provided during both.
We look forward to you joining us on this new adventure. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us.
What if I am an adult who has never received the Sacrament? This program is for YOU, too! We just ask that you join us for both Super Saturdays! You are never too old to hear the call of the Holy Spirit!
What if I miss a Super Saturday? That is OK! You can attend the session you missed in a future year and be confirmed that year.
What if I have a friend who belongs to another parish, can they join? Have them contact us! We are open to members of other parishes joining us as well.
What information do I need to sign up? You will need a copy of your baptismal certificate.
