Mercy: This weekend’s Gospel presents a tremendous challenge to us. We are forgiven by God in the measure that we forgive others. I highly recommend a book titled “Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody” by Allen Hunt.

Deacon Jack: We lost our beloved Deacon Jack Daunt on September 9. He was a pillar of our community and was very instrumental in starting our Outreach Center. He loved our parish. He will be missed.

The Best: This Sunday our beloved Knights of Columbus is having its first breakfast of the fall. It’s a great breakfast! The wonderful thing about the Knights is that all the proceeds go to help others. Thank you for supporting the Knights.

Spaghetti Dinner: The Knights keep on serving. This Wednesday, September 20, is the start of our spaghetti dinners in the Fr. Bush Parish Center. Hope you can make it out. It’s a nice community event.

St. Vincent DePaul: Speaking of people w ho serve, various St. Vincent DePaul members from Genesee County are meeting in our small hall this Wednesday, September 20. They’ll enjoy the spaghetti dinner by the Knights. Then they will thank those who generously served this past year.

Legacy: This Wednesday evening at 6 pm I will be at the Flint Farmer’s Market as Flint Powers Catholic is hosting its 1st Annual Legacy Society event in support of their Educational Trust Fund which aids tuition assistance efforts. This is a great cause. If you are interested in attending, please let me know.

Harvey: Thank you for your generosity! Thus far, $9,076.21 has been collected to support those affected by Hurricane Harvey. All the parishes in the diocese took up a second collection last weekend. The money will be sent to the diocese and then given to charitable organizations that help those in need. We haven’t heard yet from the diocese if they will do the same thing for the people affected by Hurricane Irma.

Parish Picnic: Thank you for all of you who attended our parish picnic. It was great to see everyone. And the weather was beautiful. Fr. Dan challenged me to a race in the bounce house. I lost big-time. And then a few young children challenged me in a race too. I lost to everyone there too. One child even talked smack with me and he stood near the finish line waiting for me to finish. And then I played a football game with Fr. Dan and some students. Got beat there too. I’m starting to see a pattern develop.

Recycling: Many of you use our recycling bins. Since we started, we have been averaging 3.45 tons per month. We receive $15 a month for it. If we reach 4 tons a month we get $60 a month back. We accept newspapers, magazines, catalogs, books, office and school paper, and mail. Shredded paper must be bagged. Please NO cardboard, chipboard, paperboard, cereal boxes, milk, soda, food cartons or tissue products. Thanks for using our recycling bins.

Trash: Our trash bag sales are moving along slowly but surely. This weekend is the last weekend to order trash bags. There will be people selling them after every Mass this weekend. Please remember that the proceeds will help fund a desperately needed new sound system in our parish hall. If you would simply like to make a donation to this cause, that would be great too!

Lansing: On Tuesday, September 19, I will be in Lansing for the afternoon and evening. We have a Presbyteral Council meeting at 1 pm. In the evening I will be attending a meeting for pastors and finance council members.

WTH: Thank you for your generosity to our Witness to Hope campaign. I have a favor. Some people put their pledges in our collection, which is fine. However, when writing a check for the campaign, can you please make it out to Witness to Hope rather than Holy Family. Thanks!

Building Committee: Many of our building committee members visited other Churches to get some other ideas as we put the finishing touches on our renovation of the Church. Please pray for this endeavor.

Crop Walk: If you are able, please participate in the Crop Walk on October 1. The walk begins at our parish. The cause is to help the poor in our area.

Have a blessed week walking with Jesus and Mary.

Love and prayers,
Msgr. Jerry
