We would like to begin by first thanking you for taking the Eucharist to members of our faith community who cannot
join us for Mass. This sacrament is a sign of unity and a source of spiritual healing. As ministers of the Church, you
are a sign of God’s abiding love for all his children. Your service is greatly appreciated.
Currently the EM to the sick are being called up by the celebrant to receive the pyx prior to the conclusion of Mass.
Beginning the weekend of December 2/3, 2017, the first Sunday of Advent, the priest will no longer invite the EM to
come forward. The pyx will remain on the tray next to the tabernacle to be retrieved by the EM to the sick when they
are ready to leave the church. This will allow the minister to visit with their friends or take care of necessary business.
When they are ready to leave, you can then pick up your pyx and immediately proceed to the home or facility of
the person who will be receiving the Eucharist. The guidelines of the Diocese of Lansing state, “It is important to
remember that ministers to the sick exercise their duties immediately after Mass. The visit to the sick by a Eucharistic minister has priority over any other activities. One must avoid errands, dining out, or engaging in long conversations
until the visit(s) to the sick are completed. Always be aware that you are carrying the Blessed Sacrament.”
We are making these changes to accommodate those of you who would like to attend functions, i.e. bake sales, coffee and donuts, which often take place on campus after Mass. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Linda Blondin or Linda Waggoner at the parish office, 810-694-4891.
